What Causes Disease?

What Causes Disease?

Chiropractic Scottsdale AZ Wellness

It seems now would be a good time to consider what the causes of disease are. Current events would lead us to believe that germs make us sick. Viruses and bacteria abound. Some people encounter these vectors and succumb to illness and even death. Some don’t. Why? What causes one to experience this encounter differently than the next person? Is it genetics? The newest science in genetics and epigenetics suggests about 95% of people have good enough DNA to live vitally somewhere between 80 and 120 years.  So it’s likely not the bacteria or virus we need to worry about. And it’s unlikely our genetic predisposition. It seems more likely that our resistance to disease has something to do with how we live.

Lately we are told to “follow the science” when it comes to behavioral changes due to Covid-19. And while it is prudent to be considerate of those who may be at higher risk for a poor outcome if they’re infected, it would also be prudent to take care of ourselves to be sure we stay healthy. After all, we know those who are most susceptible to illness are those who are already sick (comorbidities). In order to remain in the group less likely to experience disease we must avoid being in a state of dis-ease. This is a simple concept but not always easy to accomplish. Consider the main causes of dis-ease in the body---deficiencies and toxicities. If we focus on removing those from our lives we stand a better chance of remaining healthy wouldn’t you agree?

As Deepak Chopra, M.D. has famously stated, “All disease is the result of an interruption to the flow of intelligence in the body”. Chiropractors have been teaching this message for over 120 years—that to remain healthy, the body needs no help---just no interference! The deficiencies and toxicities are forms of interference. Be sure to pay attention to the Four Essentials of Life: Food, Water, Oxygen and Nerve-Supply. By eating well and getting proper nutrients, drinking lots of pure water, getting oxygen to the cells with regular exercise and taking care of your spine and nervous system you will be able to heal and regulate optimally and remain in the cohort that not only survives but thrives!
